Search for the Voopoo Argus Pro in Britain and the first page mixes up three devices. Shop listings jump between this model, its successor the Argus Pro 2 and search pages that blur the two. In a Voopoo catalogue where the Argus range is best read by pod platform, that confusion decides which coils end up in your basket. Before judging the device, it pays to give it back its exact position, within its own family and within its segment.

The Voopoo Argus Pro holds the 80W built-in battery tier of the Argus range

The Voopoo Argus Pro is a pod mod with a sealed 3000mAh battery, adjustable from 5W to 80W, that runs on Voopoo’s PnP pod and coil platform. Within the Argus range it holds the powerful built-in battery tier, next to a twin with a removable cell, the Argus X, and ahead of a successor that switched platforms.

Its official product page describes an alloy and leather body, a 0.96-inch colour screen, USB-C charging at 5V and 2A, and a GENE.TT chip offering two modes, Smart and RBA. Output voltage runs from 3.2V to 4.2V and the resistance range from 0.1 to 3.0 ohms.

A model launched as a pair, the Argus Pro and the Argus X

Voopoo’s product page presents both devices together, as built-in or external, whichever suits you. The two variants share almost everything, and the power source is what splits them.

The Argus Pro, the built-in battery

The Pro carries its own 3000mAh battery and charges over USB-C. It is the simple option, with no cell to buy and no external charger to plan for, at the cost of a battery that sets the lifespan of the whole device.

The Argus X, the 18650 cell

The Argus X keeps the same 5W to 80W range, the same voltage, the same screen and the same chip, but it takes a single 18650 cell sold separately. It charges through a Micro USB port rather than the USB-C socket of the Pro.

This pairing reproduces inside one range the split that shapes the whole segment, between sealed battery pods and external battery pods, which our overview of the Voopoo Drag X3 and the UK pod range covers family by family.

The real span of the Argus Pro, from 10W to 80W depending on the PnP coil

An 80W ceiling says nothing about the intended use. The power limit of a pod mod only makes sense against the coils it accepts, and the compatibility chart on Voopoo’s French-language product page gives the measure.

Eleven PnP coils, only one rated to 80W

That chart lists eleven PnP coils. Only one, the PnP-VM6 at 0.15 ohm, is rated up to 80W (60W to 80W). The PnP-VM5 at 0.2 ohm stops at 60W and the PnP-VM1 at 0.3 ohm at 40W. The top of the range is the job of a single head.

Five heads under 25W

At the other end, five coils top out at 25W or less, from the PnP-TM1 at 0.6 ohm (20W to 25W) to the PnP-TR1 at 1.2 ohm (10W to 15W). Close to half of the list therefore targets mouth-to-lung vaping, which turns this powerful device into a pod that can also deliver a tight draw.

Compatibility extends to the PnP-RBA, a rebuildable head you wire yourself, which the chart files under mouth-to-lung and restricted direct lung. Between these two ends, one device covers several draw styles, provided you buy the right head.

A sealed battery and a 2ml pod, what the format imposes

The international listing quotes a 4.5ml PnP pod in PCTG. UK rules cap refillable tanks and pods at 2ml, and Voopoo offers a TPD kit that swaps that pod for a 2ml version, so the useful check for a British buyer is that the box says TPD. Nicotine e-liquid is also limited to 20mg/ml in bottles of 10ml at most.

At 80W, a 2ml pod empties fast. That legal cap weighs more on a powerful pod mod than on a compact pod with modest consumption, and our look at the compact end of the pod market around the Voopoo Doric shows the opposite end of that logic.

The 3000mAh battery cannot be replaced. It places the Argus Pro in the same family as recent built-in battery pod mods, where the life of the device depends on the life of its cell.

The Argus Pro 2, a successor that changed platform

On paper, the Argus Pro 2 keeps the built-in 3000mAh battery, the 5W to 80W range, the 3.2V to 4.2V output and the 0.96-inch screen. Its official page adds a GENE.TT 2.0 chip with several modes, including a Turbo mode, and a toggle lock switch.

The real change concerns consumables. The Argus Pro 2 moves to the PnP X platform, with a 5ml pod in its standard version (2ml in TPD form) that fills from the side. Its list of seven PnP X heads, from 0.15 to 1.0 ohm, leaves out the PnP coils of the Argus Pro.

On that list, three PnP X heads stay under 25W, from the 0.6 ohm (18W to 23W) to the 1.0 ohm (10W to 13W), against five PnP heads on the Argus Pro. The successor keeps a foot in mouth-to-lung vaping with a narrower choice, and its page recommends an e-liquid of 50 to 70% vegetable glycerine for the DTL pod.

The name carries on, the compatibility does not. An owner of the Voopoo Argus Pro who moves to the second model has to buy a new set of coils, whereas the Argus X, whose page lists the same 4.5ml pod and the same PnP coils, stays on the original platform.

FAQ

These questions cover what the name and the product page leave unclear.

Is there an Argus Pro 1?

No Voopoo device carries that name. Searches for “Argus Pro 1” point to the first model, which the maker simply calls the Argus Pro, as opposed to the Argus Pro 2 that followed.

What does RDL mean on a PnP coil?

RDL stands for restricted direct lung, a middle ground between a tight mouth-to-lung draw and an open direct lung draw. On the Argus Pro chart, the RDL heads sit between 20W and 40W.

Is RBA mode only for the PnP-RBA?

No. According to the product page, RBA mode lets you set the power freely between 5W and 80W, and its name does not restrict it to rebuildable heads. Smart mode, by contrast, relies on recognition of the fitted coil.

What is the difference between the standard kit and the TPD kit?

Both kits hold the same coils, a PnP-TW15 at 0.15 ohm and a PnP-TW30 at 0.3 ohm. Only the pod changes, 4.5ml in the standard kit and 2ml in the TPD kit, the version that meets the UK cap.

What does the GENE.TT chip do?

It handles firing, rated by the maker at 0.001 seconds, and recognition of the fitted coil. It is also the chip that provides the Smart and RBA modes.

Voopoo Argus Pro, what its place in the range says about the segment

Seen alone, the Voopoo Argus Pro looks like any 80W built-in battery pod mod. Put back in its range, it turns out to be one half of a pair, opposite an Argus X that takes an 18650 cell, and the PnP model of the Argus Pro line, before its successor moved to PnP X.

Its list of eleven coils, only one of which reaches 80W, shows that the power ceiling of the Voopoo Argus Pro, like that of any pod mod, has to be read against the consumables. That is the reading grid this site applies to every device across the vaping market, the platform and the segment first, the model second.
